Dave Bull
In this sermon from our 5pm Confirmation Service, Dave Bull, Bishop of Buckingham, reflects on how a simple invitation can change the direction of a life — because meeting Jesus changes everything. Drawing on the Gospel image of Jesus looking with compassion on the crowds, Dave explores how faith changes the way we see the world, the way we see ourselves, and the way we understand our lives. At the heart of confirmation is the wonderful promise that God calls each of us by name, knows us, loves us, and send

David Blackmore
In this 10:45am sermon, David Blackmore takes us on an imaginative journey back to first-century Rome — not the grand marble city of emperors and monuments, but the noisy, crowded, hard-pressed streets where ordinary people lived and worked

David Blackmore
In this week’s 9am sermon, David Blackmore invites us to imagine life as part of a small Christian community in first-century Rome: poor, pressured, diverse, and living under the shadow of empire. Into that setting comes Paul’s letter to the Romans — a profound and powerful message of grace, faith, peace and hope.

In this week’s Connect, Create and Celebrate service, Jack Curham reflects on the calling of Matthew and asks us to notice just how shocking Jesus’ actions would have seemed at the time. Matthew was not simply unpopular — he was seen by many as a traitor, someone who had sided with the occupying power and profited from his own people. And yet Jesus walks straight up to him and says, “Follow me.” Jack invites us to think honestly about the people we find difficult, the people we might avoid, and the people w

Sally Moring
In this week’s sermon, Rev Canon Sally Moring reflects on Matthew 9 and the stories of Matthew the tax collector, the woman who reaches out to touch Jesus’ cloak, and Jairus’ daughter. Each story begins in a place of hopelessness — moral failure, isolation, illness, grief — but Jesus steps in with compassion, restoration and new life. Sally reminds us that Jesus does not wait for us to be worthy or strong, but calls, sees and walks with those who feel beyond hope. The message is simple and powerful: hope is

Tim Crapper
In this Trinity Sunday sermon, Tim Crapper reflects on Isaiah 40 and the mystery of a God who is both utterly beyond our comprehension and intimately concerned for each one of us. Drawing on the idea of “thin places”, he invites us to see creation as a place of awe and worship, while also recognising the God who meets us personally in our weariness, strengthens us, and calls us to hope. The sermon moves from the vastness of God’s power in creation to the tender image of the shepherd who carries the lambs cl

David Blackmore
This week David Blackmore speaks for Christian Aid Week and reflects on what happens when faith stops standing still and starts getting stuck in. Through the story of Frida in Nairobi, and the urban farming project that has helped transform her life, we see how small seeds of hope can grow into something strong, generous and life-giving. Linking Christian Aid Week with the story of the Ascension, David reminds us that Jesus sends his followers out into the world — not just to look upwards, but to roll up ou

David Blackmore
In this sermon for Christian Aid Week, delivered on the Sunday after Ascension Day, David Blackmore reflects on the call to put faith into action through love, justice and practical solidarity with our global neighbours. Drawing on the story of Frida in Nairobi and the transformative work of Christian Aid’s partner, Beacon of Hope, he explores how small beginnings — like the mustard seed — can grow into lasting change. The Ascension reminds us that the disciples were not called to stand still gazing upwards

Ian Sansbury
In this week’s sermon, Ian Sansbury reflects on the challenge of stepping beyond our comfort zones in faith. Drawing on Paul’s address in Athens and Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit in John’s Gospel, he explores how Christian witness calls us to courage, sensitivity and trust: meeting people where they are, speaking into their context, and remembering that we are never alone. The Spirit, the one who comes alongside us, equips and strengthens us as we seek to live and speak faithfully in the world.

Hello and welcome to St Mary's. If you are a new visitor, we have a page for you to get to know us and learn more about planning a visit.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Welcome!

The following information is specifically for those planning to visit us for the first time, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at St Mary's Church in Church Lane, Wendover, for our two main Sunday services each week, which start at 9.00am and 10.45am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you will be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Plan your journey

Accessibility

There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the Church Centre, which you can find through the door towards the front of the church on the left hand side.

Our Main Sunday Services

Our 9am Holy Communion is a more traditional service, including music and hymns in an established style but using up-to-date language. It will probably appeal to those who are used to more formal Anglican worship.  There is no provision for children at this service.

Our 10.45am Sunday Worship services follow a more informal style with contemporary worship songs. These services are typically most suitable for families. Children of all ages are very welcome and we have activities for younger children at the back of church. On the second and fourth Sundays of each month, we share Communion at this service. The first and third Sundays do not include Communion and are designed to be rich in teaching and learning for people of all ages - from 2 to 92!

You can find details of our other services here.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out our Church Life section on this website to see if there’s a group that you'd like to join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

Serving and Volunteering

If you want to get involved in the life of the church, why not sign up to serve on a team. We are always looking for volunteers to get involved in different aspects of our work.
